EVIHDAF is an international research and evaluation organization headquartered in Yaoundé, Cameroon, which serves the West and Central Africa region. It provides services in Research, Evaluation & Learning; Data, Analytics & Information Systems; and Social & Behavior Change Strategies. Its practice areas include Health and Health Systems, Nutrition and Food Security, and Agriculture and Livelihoods (www.evihdaf.com). EVIHDAF is seeking a Senior Technical Director for its newly-awarded research program on Social and Behavior Change (SBC). The program is led by the Center on Gender Equity and Health (GEH) at the University of California San Diego (UCSD), and is comprised of global, regional and country level research and implementation partners in Africa and Asia.
The SBC Research Program
The program aims to strengthen the generation and utilization of SBC evidence on empowerment and agency of individuals and communities to improve the uptake and continuation of healthy behaviors related to family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH), maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH), nutrition, and malaria, among others. It focuses on three key areas: 1) Generation of new evidence through the implementation and rigorous evaluation of innovative SBC interventions; 2) Improved measurement, monitoring and adaptive management of SBC interventions; and 3) Improved research utilization (RU) of SBC evidence in the design, implementation, and evaluation of health and development programs. The program will be implemented through hubs in West/Central Africa, East Africa, and South Asia. EVIHDAF is leading the program’s activities in West/Central Africa.
The Senior Technical Director
The Senior Technical Director will demonstrate technical and leadership capabilities to steer the program’s West/Central Africa Hub, lead the design of work plans and oversee its implementation, and provide high level technical assistance to country and global teams. He/she will also liaise with the two other Hubs, the program’s Leadership team at GEH/UCSD, and the three key area teams (Evidence generation, Measurement & monitoring, and RU), and to generate and maintain relationships with host country governments, project stakeholders, implementing organizations and partners. The position involves both local and international travel. Its location is flexible (e.g., our Cameroon main office, our Niger project office, or remote work).
Qualifications
- PhD with 10+ years of experience and publications in the areas of FP/RH, Malaria, MNCH, and/or Nutrition
- Familiarity with the topics of individual and community agency and empowerment
- Demonstrated experience in SBC-related quantitative and qualitative analysis, implementation research, and evaluation in the areas of FP/RH, Malaria, MNCH, and/or Nutrition
- Demonstrated experience designing or evaluating health programs in West and/or Central African countries
- Demonstrated experience leading successful global health proposal design and development
- Ability to succinctly communicate complex research rationales, designs, and learning both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work effectively both independently and in teams
- Fluency in either English or French, and the ability to work in both languages.
